Media Awards Analysis

Labrat:

Mise-en-Scene
Costume: At first, the protagonist is wearing casual clothing which suggests this character is. As the clip progresses, viewers see the character changing into clothes that a scientist would wear  as he changes into a white labcoat which is the expected attire of somebody in a labatory.
Lighting: the lighting varies throughout the clip. Initially, the lighting is quite bright in order to enable viewers of the film to clearly see the protagonist's facial expressions. During the scene filmed outside, however, the lighting is dimmer. This could've been deliberate in order to set the mood of the scene or just because the weather on that particular day was gloomy. However, either way, this natural lighting ties in well with the events of the scene and effectively works well with the storyline.
Actors: there are only two actors shown in this particular film trailer: the protagonist and assumed antagonist who beats up the protagonist. The reason that viewers can tell which is which is because the protagonist is shown throughout the clip whereas the other character only appears once. Also, only the protagonist's identity is revealed.
Make-up- at the beginning of the clip, it is unlikely that this character is wearing any makeup as his skin looks pretty natural. However, when the protagonist gets beat up (punched) make up has then been used in order to create the effect of a black eye, to show the consequences of what had happened.
Props- Initially, the protagonist is shown setting up his camera which we then see scenes from that perspective. This shows viewers that the protagonist is aware that he is being watched by people and is going to share his story. Books were also used in order to enhance the fact that the story is set in school and also allows for the character to show his emotions towards the school as the book symbolises the school as a whole.
Setting- the story is set in a school which is evident because the building is shown and the guy narrating the voiceover mentions that he was in school.
The camera shots used in the clip include shot reverse shot when the protagonist is setting up the camera because at first the viewers can see the camera and then they can see him from the camera's point of view

What makes a good practical production
I think that in order to have a good practical production, there needs to be sufficient planning of what the production will entail, beforehand. The roles taking place in the production should be split equally between people and each person should use their skills to their best ability. So if one person is particularly good at editing, they should be the main person doing the editing. I think a group doing a production needs to be cooperative and all work together in order to ensure the success of the production. Everyone needs to be able to set and work towards their deadlines.
