Pleminary Exercise Evaluation

The brief was to create a short clip of a person opening the door of a room, entering the room and having a conversation with another character. It had to include match on action, use of the 180° rule and a close-up.

Khadijah and I initially decided to complete the storyboard, shot list and script together. However, it didn't end up that way and we ended up doing separate pieces of work that were quite similar. I think this did come at an advantage during filming, though since it enabled us to choose the best ideas from each plan made.

The storyboard gave us an idea of how the clip was to be structured enabling us to follow it in order for the clip to make sense in a chronological order. The shot list allowed for us to see exactly the variation of the types of shots we would use throughout the clip. I think that the script was helpful so that we could know exactly what the characters were saying at each time and also give a detailed description of movement within the clip (like stage directions)

However, during the filming process, the script, storyboard and shot list weren't completely followed since we decided to tweak it a little bit. Whilst editing, we also altered the structure of the film due to the fact that some footage was deleted which meant that we had to change the storyline slightly in order for the clip to still make logical sense. We used real text messages which made the scene seem realistic enough. We had various of shots in our production; medium shot, close up shot and over the shoulder shot. When looking at the phone, we had a over the shoulder shot so you could see the messages clear and the audience could understand what was going on by then and it made the narrative clear I think.
There was no continuity; clothes changed in different scenes. Some scenes also didn't transition very well. Mic picked up on wind and therefore struggled to hear footsteps
